About Danika
Background and Education
Danika’s background is in Art, Interior Design and Decorative Painting. She attended college for Art, and worked for several years as a Decorative Artist. She quickly fell in love with interiors and wanted to do more than just paint the walls and furniture so she went back to school for Interior Design.
Over the course of two decades in the Trade she also ran a design blog, started a fretwork company called O’verlays and started designing fabric. It was here she found her niche. She finally had an outlet for all the patterns and ideas swirling in her head!
How She Learned About Pattern
As a child, she spent countless weekends going on family trips to flea markets and antique shops up and down the East Coast. While it was not the most fun activity for a child, it left a lasting impression and developed her love of tradition and pattern.
She draws from this when developing a design, whether it’s giving a nod to blue and white ceramics or incorporating vintage embroidery motifs into a pattern. Mixing the old with the new is her favorite formula for design, and she is always visualizing how a pattern will translate to walls or soft furnishings.
Current Inspirations
Danika currently lives north of Boston with her husband and two sons, as well as spends time along the Gulf Coast of Florida. Both regions can be seen in her work, mixing vibrant and whimsical Floridian colors into traditional New England designs.
When asked to describe her style she sums it up best as “Palm Beach and New England got hitched and had a Chinoiserie baby.”
